Why do we not admit children under 4 to our performances?
- We have found that it is a rare 3 year old who can sit through a full length production without becoming distracting to those seated around them. We have also found that virtually everyone believes that their 3 year old is the exception, but that faith has no basis in fact. Usually the parents are blithely unaware of how miserable they are making things for those around them. This creates very uncomfortable situations that our House Staff are required to handle. It is just simply best to avoid this all around.
How do I get to be in a play?
- You must audition. The best way to find out about upcoming auditions is to sign up on this web site to receive email announcements.
Do you have to attend Springhouse Worship and Arts Center to be in a play?
- No. Auditions are open to all.
Do you have to be a Christian to be in a play?
- No. Once again, auditions are open to all.
Do you always cast the same people?
- No. Casting is left up to the discretion of the Director, but it is our policy to include new faces in our casts as often as possible. When considering casting for major roles any Director will tend to lean toward someone they have had a good experience working with before. Therefore, even though you may be talented you may have to perform a smaller role at first. One of our sayings is that, “When you do a show you are already auditioning for your next show.” We have had approximately 50 lead roles to date and they have been played by no less than 35 different people.
How are plays selected?
- We have a Theatre Council that oversees the functions of Lamplighter’s Theatre Company. This Council is responsible for selecting plays and Directors for both the main season and the Blackbox.
How does one become a member of the Theatre Council?
- Because LTC is a ministry of Springhouse Worship and Arts Center membership on the Theatre Council is considered a leadership position in SWAC. Therefore, the members of the Theatre Council are selected from the regular attenders of SWAC annually and serve one year terms. They can serve consecutive terms. The Theatre Council is usually made up of between 15 and 20 members, all of whom are active in one or more of the many areas necessary to produce quality theatre.
